The USAF Air Demonstration Squadron, also known as the "Thunderbirds", is the air demonstration squadron of the United States Air Force (USAF). Established 71 years ago in 1953, the Thunderbirds are the third-oldest formal flying aerobatic team in the world, after the French Air Force Patrouille de France formed in 1931 and the United States Navy Blue Angels formed in 1946. The Thunderbirds Squadron is based at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, and is assigned to the 57th Wing.
The squadron performs aerobatic formation and solo flying in specially marked aircraft, showcasing the capabilities of USAF pilots and aircraft to audiences across the United States and around the world. The squadron's name is taken from the legendary creature that appears in the mythologies of several indigenous North American cultures.
As a named USAF squadron, the Thunderbirds do not carry a numerical designation. The squadron's origins can be traced back to the organization of the 30th Aero Squadron, formed at Kelly Field, Texas, on June 13, 1917.
This 1/100 scale military fighter aircraft is part of the COMBAT PLANES COLLECTION by Editions HACHETTE and is compatible with the F-16C Fighting Falcon, specifically the USAF Thunderbirds 2009 livery.
