The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 (NATO code Fulcrum) was a Soviet air superiority fighter aircraft developed in the early 1970s, with its first flight on 6 October 1977. It entered service with the Soviet Army in 1983. The MiG-29SMT was launched to provide Fulcrum users with an improved version, with MiG's primary target being the Russian Air Force. Several aspects were particularly reworked, including the range of action, structural modifications, armament, radar, and avionics. However, the financial crisis of 1998 prevented the modernization program from being carried out in Russia, with only 6 Russian examples upgraded to the SMT standard.
